Behind the Scenes of our Dried Flower Harvest 2023

It’s that time of year when we can reflect on our dried flower and petal harvest in 2023. At LSF Wholesale, we faced some weather-related challenges during this season. We had more rainfall than anticipated, which did affect our crop. Nevertheless, our dedicated team persevered and managed to achieve an impressive harvest.

Our Harvest Team 2023

Looking back on May we welcomed back our hard-working team to Lynn South Farm. We took a phased approach to reintroduce experienced members back to the farm, which allowed them to seamlessly settle back in and assist our dispatch team with fulfilling large trade orders. We then saw the arrival of several new faces, who quickly proved to be valuable assets to our workforce.

It is always a pleasure when our summer team graces their presence on the farm. They bring with them incredible work ethic and high standards. A skill they have mastered over many years, with some team members returning for their eighth season. Their dedication has allowed them to witness the incredible growth and progress that LSF has achieved over the years.

Harvesting our Dried Flowers and Petals

Under the leadership of Laura, our operations manager, we saw a smooth transition as the workforce headed back out into the fields for the month of June. We began, early June with harvesting our cornflowers, which were all harvested by hand.
As we moved into late June and July our focus moved to harvesting our Larkspur to be dried and used for petals and dried flowers.
To complete the dried flower harvest, we progressed onto Lagurus, Oats, Wheat, Nigella Orientals, Helichrysum, and many more which were all collected in August.

We are thrilled to announce that this summer, we harvested just over one million handfuls of biodegradable dried petals, which amounts to a staggering 90,000 petals, in addition to 35,000 bunches of dried flowers. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our team at LSF Wholesale

Research and Development

Working behind the scenes, Jemma, a vital member of our research and development team has been conducting numerous trials. Her efforts will lead us to discover how we can offer even more to our customers and harvest dried flowers of the very best quality.
This involves carrying out in depth research behind the scenes and forecasting ideas years ahead to improve our products. A long process which requires a lot of patience and attention to detail, it’s always rewarding to see how Jemma’s research comes to fruition.

Reflecting on Harvest 2023

As we reflect on a bustling harvest season, our focus is already shifting towards the next one. Jim, our managing director and the team are hard at work planning and mapping out our fields for next year’s crop. Once this crucial groundwork is complete, our solar powered flower planting robots will return to the starting line, ready to begin seeding for the 2024 harvest. It’s all part of our commitment to delivering the best quality dried flowers to our valued customers.
